Goals, everyone should have them. Goals can be deemed short term or long term, but it is imperative that we set them for ourself. When we set Goals for ourself and we achieve them we yearn for more opportunities to accomplish new ones. To me, success can be measured by the goals you set for yourself and accomplish, and how they impact you or other individuals; so the question is what's the blueprint for setting Goals?

THE BLUEPRINT

1. What do you want to accomplish. Perhaps you want to make the basketball team, get a new job, or get an A on your next test. That's the 1st step; figuring out exactly what you want to do. To some, this may be the most difficult step; just figuring out what it is you want to accomplish. Those 3 examples mentioned are GOALS, things you want; things you want to accomplish. You have to write those goals down first before you can move forward to achieving them.

2. Short Term vs Long Term. Write down 5 short term goals to start off. These 5 goals should be attainable within 3-6 months. Once you figured out what you want to accomplish in the next 3-6 months devise 5 long term goals. These long term goals should be something you can accomplish within 5-10 years. Five is a starting point, obviously you can have more then 5 short term and 5 long term goals. The most important thing is that you have GOALS listed.

3. Devise a plan. Now you have your goals listed on a piece of paper. These goals should be looked at every single day as a reminder to yourself on what you want to accomplish. Our next task is to sit down and come up with specific plans on how we will accomplish these goals. For example, if your goal is wanting to make the basketball team, your plan should be specific on how you will accomplish that. For 7 days a week you decide to work on your ball-handling for an hour; make a 1000 jump shots from all over the court, work on your footwork and go to moves. Also, you decide to eat right, lift weights, and condition yourself throughly. Put down the date of when you began these task and put down the date of the basketball tryouts. If you follow this plan and work extremely hard I'm sure the goal will be accomplished.

4. Faith. The most important ingredient to achieving goals is to believe it will happen. Faith is defined as things hoped for but not yet seen. When you write down your goals you have to visualize that you achieved the goal; you have to say it aloud to yourself that, "I WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL." There is a great saying I use in my every day life and please make sure you add this phrase to your memory: "If you BELIEVE IT you will ACHIEVE IT."

5. STAY DISCIPLINED. It is very easy to get off course when you are in the pursuit of accomplishing your goals. One important thing to remember, stay focused and disciplined to achieving your goal. Do not let anyone or anything distract you from reaching those goals. Do not let anyone feed negativity in to your brain to sway you from accomplishing what you set out for. Stay the course and you will accomplish what ever you want.

6. Have Fun. When you are in the pursuit of your goals enjoy the journey. I will tell you from experience that it will be a lot of good times and there will be some obstacles along the way, but when you reach your goals the journey will be well worth it. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE RIDE!!! :)

"When you want something in life, go after it hard; don't be passive. Say you will achieve your GOAL and it will happen."
